Ingredients
  • Oil 2 tbsp
  • Onion 1 medium (chopped)
  • Tomatoes 2 (chopped)
  • Tomato paste 1 tbsp
  • Dry lemon skin 1 tsp
  • Bay leaf 1
  • Basmati rice 2 cups
  • Water as required
  • For Spices
  • Turmeric 1 tsp
  • Ground pepper 1/2 tsp
  • Ginger powder 1 tsp
  • Coriander powder 1 tsp
  • Red chilli powder 1/2 tsp
  • Cinnamon powder 1/2 tsp
  • Salt 1 tsp
  • Cloves (approximately 6 of them)
  • Cardamom (approximately 6 of them)
Instructions
  1. Heat the oil in a large pan and fry the onion. Now add the chopped tomatoes, tomato paste, dried lemon and bay leaf.
  2. Add the basmati rice into the pan, followed by the water. Stir the rice, making sure it doesn’t stick to the bottom of the pot.
  3. Stir in all the spices (mentioned in spices). Bring the rice to the boil. Simmer until the rice has absorbed the water. Serve!
Notes
To cook basmati rice, for every 1 cup of rice, cook in 1 1/2 cups of water.
