Kofta Biryani (Meatballs Biryani)

Ingredients

For Meat Balls

  • Mince ½ kg
  • Ginger, garlic paste 2 tsp
  • Red chili powder 2 tsp
  • Garam masala powder 2 tsp
  • Roasted chickpeas powder ¼ cup
  • Salt to taste

For Gravy

  • Onions 3 (ringed)
  • Oil ¼ cup
  • Ginger, garlic paste 2 tsp
  • Salt ½ tsp or to taste
  • Red chili powder 2 tsp
  • Garam masala powder 1 tsp
  • Yogurt 1 cup

For Rice

  • Rice ½ kg (soaked)
  • Salt 2 tsp or to taste
  • Bay leaves 2
  • Sabat garam masala 2 tsp
  • Water as required
  • Warm milk ¼ cup
  • Yellow food color ¼ tsp

Instructions

For Meat Balls
  1. Put all ingredients of meatballs in the food processor and mix well. Make small balls and set aside.
For Gravy
  1. Fry onion rings in oil for slightly brown color. Then add ginger garlic paste, salt, red chili powder, and garam masala.
  2. After 5 minutes, add one glass water, allow boiling, and put meatballs. Cook about 15 minutes or until water dries.
  3. Now add yogurt and cook until yogurt water dries and a thick masala formed.
For Rice
  1. In separate skillet boil rice till three quarters done with salt, bay leaves, and sabat garam masala. Drain out the water.
  2. Now in a skillet, spread rice layer, then meatballs layer, then remaining rice. Sprinkle the yellow food color (dissolve in warm milk). Simmer for 10 minutes.
  3. Serve hot with salad and raita.
